Last year at this time I had a full on Pinterest board full of ideas for B&B’s bday. Birthday #2 is somehow less than 4 months away (which OMG, how did that go so fast?!) and know what I have planned? NADA. Guess it’s about time I get a Pinterest board going, huh? Reality is, we’ll probably be freshly moved out of our place for the remodel so I doubt we’ll do anything big this time, at least not like the first birthday. Maybe a donut themed brunch? Hmmm….
Bringing it back, let’s get to…B&B’s first FIESTA!
I was extra sentimental about these two turning one, and as much as I tried to hold back, I couldn’t help but go a teeny bit overboard. Their birthday is May 3rd, and while I know it’s not the most creative, I decided to go with a fiesta theme because well, #tacos. We had it catered by a local taqueria which was SUPER reasonably priced since it didn’t include service, and we didn’t follow our neighbor’s warning to cut the order in half from the number of guests we were expecting, so we ended up with a TON of extra food. Lesson learned.
Troy insisted that we get a keg which I think earned us the quote from a fellow dad that Troy is extra proud of
“This is by FAR the best 1st birthday party I’ve ever been to” 😉.
We had B&B’s Music Together teacher come and do a 45 minute activity for the kids and it was so much fun. Music, bubble machine, balls and instruments. The kids loved it and the parents loved that they could actually enjoy their food and a bit of socialization. It was also perfect for all age groups from our sweet little 1 year olds to the 6 and 7 year olds in the group. After the entertainment, we went on to cake which they were NOT the least bit interested in. So funny how much pressure goes into the whole smash cake production. I guess some kids are really into and some aren’t. Ours fell into the latter group.
A few other details:
- I decided last minute to get someone to shoot their party so I could enjoy it and not worry about pictures. So glad I did (thanks Fancy Fig Photography!).
- My talented step mom (who also made the food for my baby shower) made the cookies, cupcakes and smash cakes
- B&B’s authentic outfits were from a trip to Mexico my parent’s took
- My incredibly talented friend did the lettering on our welcome sign
